Kickboxing, also called kickbox, combines the hand technique of boxing with kicks. In training you learn a guard position, footwork, striking combinations and how to move around the ring so that strikes and defence continue smoothly. The first classes are usually calm and focus on a steady stance and the correct order of strikes.
A kickboxing coach usually offers two tracks: fitness and technique training for recreational athletes, and preparation for sparring or competition. A beginner does not have to fight, because the first months often go on technique, defence and mobility. Later you decide whether sparring interests you.
When looking for a kickboxing coach in Tallinn or elsewhere, check whether the club has a beginners' group, how sparring is supervised and what equipment is needed. Before your first session, ask whether the club lends boxing gloves and shin guards, and bring sportswear and a water bottle.
