Dancing is one of the most varied ways to move: dance classes range from ballroom and salsa to hip-hop, contemporary and show dance. A dance teacher teaches the basic steps, a sense of rhythm and posture, then puts the steps together into a routine that is enjoyable to repeat to music.
Dance suits people of any age. Children learn coordination through playful movement, while adults often come to dance at a wedding or party or simply for the joy of it. For partner dances you do not need to bring a partner straight away, because many groups rotate partners during the class.
Before choosing a dance school, think about which style interests you and ask the teacher whether there is a group for beginners. Also find out whether the class is for individuals or couples, how long the course runs, whether the group prepares for performances and whether a trial class is possible before a longer commitment.
