Senior gymnastics (1)

Gymnastics for seniors is calm, steady exercise that keeps your balance, mobility and strength up for everyday life. The trainer picks movements that can be done on a chair, standing or on a mat, and shows how to make each one easier or harder.

Senior exercise classes suit people who have been active for years as well as those just starting. The first sessions focus on breathing, posture and walking, and light weights and resistance bands come later. If you have joint or heart conditions, tell the trainer about them before the first class.

In Estonia, exercise classes for older adults are often held in small groups at a community centre, a sports club or outdoors close to home. Ask how big the group is, whether there are chairs or supports for balance work, whether the trainer has experience with older people and whether the first class is a trial.
